A residence, dedicated wildlife sanctuary and bush retreat for tourists

Description

Tracey Davis and Todd Farrawell are the owners of Corang River B&B, a property located in Corang, approximately 35km northeast of Braidwood, NSW. The property is a residence as well as a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and bush retreat for tourists. Tracey and Todd intend to continue utilising the property for these purposes, whilst controlling feral species such as foxes, preserving natural vegetation and developing attractions such as birdwatching, photography and education for guests to experience.

Corang River B&B covers approximately 119.3 hectares and is bordered on one side by the Corang River. The property consists of undulating hills and features several dams and some large open areas of grassland; however most of the property is vegetated with largely untouched areas of native bushland.

Vegetation on the property varies between dry sclerophyll shrub forest, grass forest, heathland, riparian vegetation and pine forest. Vegetative species present include various eucalypts, she-oaks (Casuarina spp.), pines and native grasses.

A vast array of wildlife is found on the property, including swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus).

A wide range of birds such as laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), magpies (Cracticus tibicen), superb lyrebirds (Menura novaehollandiae), scarlet robins (Petroica boodang), superb fairy-wrens (Malurus cyaneus), white-breasted woodswallows (Artamus leucorynchus), kites, eagles and honeyeaters also live on the property. Various parrots can also be found on the property, including sulphur-crested (Cacatua galerita) and gang-gang (Callocephalon fimbriatum) cockatoos, eastern (Platycercus eximius) and crimson (Platycercus elegans) rosellas, yellow-tailed (Calyptorhynchus funereus) and glossy (Calyptorhynchus lathami) black cockatoos and king parrots (Alisterus scapularis).
