A residence, wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation site

Description

Justine King and Greg Pointing are the owners of Dimmocks Retreat Wildlife, a property situated in Bundanoon, approximately 140km northeast of Canberra and 120km southwest of Sydney CBD, New South Wales. The property is a residence and recreational area as well as a wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation site. Justine and Greg intend to improve the existing native habitat on the property for the benefit of local wildlife whilst rehabilitating native species.

The property covers approximately 0.8 hectares of densely forest land with two easements backing onto the Morton National Park. Vegetation is dominated by eucalypt woodland, with three old-growth trees believed to be over 200 years old. Other native flora includes swamp paperbarks (Melaleuca ericifolia) and various wattles (Acacia spp.).

A wide range of native fauna is found on the property including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, bandicoots, diamond pythons (Morelia spilota), red-bellied black snakes (Pseudechis porphyriacus) and various native frogs. An abundance of birdlife is also present including gang-gang cockatoos (Callocephalon fimbriatum), superb lyrebirds (Menura novaehollandiae) and eastern whipbirds (Psophodes olivaceus).
