A dedicated wildlife sanctuary, eco-friendly tourist accommodation and residence

Linda McHenry is the owner of Noosa Avalon Farm Cottages, a property situated in the Noosa Hinterlands, Queensland. The property is an eco-friendly tourist accommodation and residence, as well as a dedicated wildlife sanctuary. Linda wishes to maintain the current uses and conservation values of the property whilst improving the native habitat. The property is also registered with Land for Wildlife.

The property covers approximately 12 hectares of gently undulating hills and features a large dam which provides water and habitat for wildlife. The property has been pesticide free for 30 years and is a significant conservation area for rare and threatened endemic species.

Vegetation on the property consists largely of native grasslands interspersed with subtropical rainforest and Eucalypt woodlands, which provide significant habitat for native birds, insects and other wildlife.

Wildlife found on the property includes eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor) and feathertail gliders (Acrobates pygmaeus), as well as an array of native birds including various owls and raptors.

Various frogs and reptiles such as pink tongued skinks (Cyclodomorphus gerrardii) are also present, as well as Mary River turtles (Elusor macrurus), which breed in the property’s waterways.
