A residence, grain and cattle farm and wildlife-friendly sanctuary

Description

James and Bridget Badgery are the owners and managers of Talawanta, a 2,000 hectare grain and cattle farm located just under 100 km from Tamworth, at the base of the Liverpool Range. James and Bridget are committed to conservation and modern farm practices, and hope to bridge the gap between environmental groups and farmers.

The terrain varies from red soil hill country to black soil flood plains, with dominant yellow box (Eucalyptus melliodora) and pine scrub vegetation, and 80 hectares of untouched scrubland.  Big Jacks Creek provides a permanent source of water for wildlife, while Little Jacks Creek acts as a further intermittent water source.

The property provides habitat for a variety of animal species including red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), common wallaroos (Macropus robustus), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus) and short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus). The property also houses many species of birds, invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles including lace monitors (Varanus varius).
