A residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary

Description

Scott and Angela Barber are the owners of a rural residential property located approximately 15km northeast of Lismore.  The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and home that backs onto a creek and remnant rainforest, and Scott and Angela are in the process of actively regenerating the riparian area.  It is their intention to assist native habitat recovery to better provide for wildlife through this bush regeneration.

The sanctuary covers approximately 0.65 hectares, with vegetation species including blue commelina (Commelina cyanea), wonga wonga vine (Pandorea pandorana), water gum (Tristania neriifolia), sweet pittosporum (Pittosporum undulatum), Bangalow palm (Archontophoenix cunninghamiana), muttonwood (Myrsine howittiana), pink euodia (Meilcope elleryana), hairy rosewood (Dysoxylum rufum), foambark (Jagera pseudorhus) and orange thorn (Pittosporum multiflorum).  Several weed species present are in the process of being removed by Scott and Angela.

Known wildlife species that inhabit the sanctuary include the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), eastern water dragon (Physignathus lesueurii), grey strike-thrush (Colluricincla harmonica), pied currawong (Strepera graculina), eastern rosella (Platycercus eximius), eastern brown snake (Pseudonaja textilis) and a variety of lizards.
