Penny and David Gibson are the owners of Willawa, a property located approximately 180km north west of Goulburn. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and a residence. Since purchasing the land in 1976, Penny and David have endeavoured to provide a sanctuary for all wildlife and it is their intent for the property to continue in this purpose. Penny is also a committee member of Young District Landcare Inc.
Willawa covers 1.62 hectares of native bushland with a house on one corner and the rest mainly wooded. The main vegetation type is eucalypt woodland and includes native grasses, Blakely’s red gums (Eucalyptus blakelyi), kurrajongs (Brachychiton populneus), tagasastes (Chamaecytisus palmensis), lemon-scented gums (Corymbia citriodora), carobs (Ceratonia siliqua), Cootamundra (Acacia baileyana) and West Wyalong (A. cardiophylla) wattles, grevilleas (Grevillea spp.), hop bushes (Dodonaea spp.), native mints (Mentha spp.), and dianellas (Dianella spp.).
Wildlife sighted on the property include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), native bees and many species of lizards and birds.
