Pete Graham is the owner of Sheep Station Creek, a property located in Rhine Falls, approximately 25km West of Cooma. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and is used for recreation as well as wildlife rehabilitation. Although Sheep Station Creek has been free of livestock for many years, it is Pete’s intention to reintroduce a sustainable herd of compatible stock in the future, while maintaining the property as a wildlife sanctuary.
The sanctuary covers 84 hectares of high altitude (approximately 1,250 metres above sea-level) montane bushland and high country forest. Species of note include white (Eucalyptus pauciflora) and black (E. stellulata) sallees, candlebarks (E. rubida), peppermint gums (E. nicholi), mountain gums (E. cypellocarpa) and a variety of high country herbs and shrubs, some of which are listed as threatened.
Wildlife known to be present on Sheep Station Creek includes healthy populations of macropods and bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), with examples of bird life including crimson rosellas (Platycersus elegans), gang-gang cockatoos (Callocephalon fimbriatum), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita) and ravens (Corvus coronoides). Additionally, the sanctuary is a release site for LAOKO (Looking After Our Kosciusko Orphans) Wildlife.
