Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / NSW / Yodalla

Adrian Guthrie is the owner of Yodalla Wildlife Refuge, a property located approximately 70km west of Port Macquarie. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary also used for tourism, and it is Adrian’s intent to develop opportunities as a creative eco-tourism retreat compatible with the priorities of native wildlife protection. The property was gazetted as a Wildlife Refuge by the New South Wales government in 1984.

The property covers 140 hectares, approximately 80% of which has forest cover, in a narrow, northerly-facing river valley with tributary gullies including sub-tropical gallery rainforest. A substantial section of ox-bow wetland is present on Pappinbarra River, with cedar flats and stands of dry scelrophyll forest on all ridges.

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary are numerous, with rare and threatened species present including spotted-tailed quolls (Dasyurus maculatus), red-legged pademelons (Thylogale stigmatica), platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), bush rats (Melomys cervinipes), brush turkeys (Alectura lathami), eastern whipbirds (Psophodes olivaceus olivaceus), superb lyrebirds (Menura novaehollandiae), powerful owls (Ninox strenua), and Stephen’s banded snakes (Hiplocephalus stephensii).
