Greg Keightley is the owner of Mountain View, a property located approximately 40km northeast of Bathurst. The property is a dedicated wildlife-friendly sanctuary, purchased with the intent to have a high level conservation agreement put in place to protect the land in-perpetuity. It is Greg’s intent to continue to utilise the property for the benefit of the local environment and, in future, to offer education, recreation and eco-tourism in order to fund and expand conservation efforts.
The sanctuary covers 200 hectares of eucalypt woodlands bordering Sunny Corner State Forest with more than four kilometres of creek frontage on the western boundary. The topography is described as challenging in some areas along the creek, but has wooded rolling hills and native grass across open plains providing a safe haven for the property’s many inhabitants.
Wildlife species known to inhabit Mountain View include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) and swamp (Wallabia bicolor) wallabies, common wallaroos (Macropus robustus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), platypuses (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), lace monitors (Varanus varius) and other reptiles. The property also supports an abundance of birdlife, including eagles, falcons and hawks.
