Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / NSW / Kangaroo Keep

Adele Milander and Daniel Benstead are the owners of Kangaroo Keep, a property located in Manton, approximately 10km east of Yass, NSW. Adele and Dan intend to preserve the property as a wildlife sanctuary, extending from the Mundoonen Nature Reserve. Adele and Dan are wildlife care volunteers, registered with Wildcare Queanbeyan. Kangaroo Keep is registered with Land for Wildlife.

Kangaroo Keep covers approximately 47.5 hectares of undulating hills bordered on two sides by Mundoonen Nature Reserve. The sanctuary consists of cleared grassland and eucalypt woodland. Vegetative species are predominantly eucalypts such as scribbly gum (Eucalyptus rossii) and red stringybark (Eucalyptus macrorhyncha) as well as acacias (Acacia spp.), tea trees (Leptospermum spp.) and various native grasses.

Wildlife found throughout the sanctuary includes eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), common wallaroos (Macropus robustus), red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) and swamp (Wallabia bicolor) wallabies, bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), red bellied black (Pseudechis porphyriacus) and eastern brown (Pseudonaja textilis) snakes, wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), welcome swallows (Hirundo neoxena) and various skinks.
