A home and dedicated wildlife sanctuary, also used for wildlife rehabilitation

Description

Kay and Dallas Muddiman are the owners of Marwood, a property located approximately 30km north of Crookwell.  The property is a home and dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and is used for wildlife rehabilitation.  It is Kay and Dallas's intention to live on Marwood for the foreseeable future while gradually improving the biodiversity of the property through native species plantings and continuing weed management.  They are also in the process of converting an established small dam on the sanctuary into a wildlife-friendly area featuring sheoaks and a variety of understory and native grass species.

The sanctuary covers 2.71 hectares predominantly comprised of ex-farming land scattered with paddock trees, and a section of established eucalypts.  Approximately 100 eucalypts are at various stages of growth after being planted by Kay and Dallas throughout their 9 years on Marwood.  A variety of eucalypt species, including yellow box (Eucalyptus melliodora), apple box (E. bridgesiana), snow gum (E. pauciflora), black sallee (E. stellulata) and peppermint box (E. odorata), make up the vegetation on the sanctuary.

Wildlife species known to occur on Marwood include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp (Wallabia bicolor) and red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) wallabies, bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) and brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) possums, various snakes and a range of lizards - especially eastern shinglebacks (Tiliqua rugosa asper).  The shrub and understorey species planted by Kay and Dallas also attract a wide variety of native bird species.
