Ian and Miranda Mumford are the owerns of Underhill Reserve, a property located approximately 10km southeast of Gosford. The property is a residence and wildlife friendly sanctuary zoned Rural Conservation, and it is Ian and Miranda’s intent for it to continue in these purposes.
The property covers approximately 1.22 hectares of partially cleared land with a variety of native vegetation species present. Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include families of swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), a large variety of reptiles including lace monitors (Varanus varius), and eastern water dragons (Intellagama lesueurii), a variety of small freshwater species in the creek, and a wide range of butterflies and other insects.
A wide range of native birdlife such as tawny frogmouths (Podargus strigoides), Australian brush turkeys (Alectura lathami), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), and various ducks, parrots and finches are also present. White-bellied sea (Haliaeetus leucogaster) and wedge-tailed (Aquila audax) eagles occassionally visit the sanctuary.
