Description

Elizabeth and Chris Neville are the owners of Joey's Retreat, a property located in Bulga, approximately 80km North-West of Newcastle in New South Wales.  Elizabeth and Chris are wildlife carers and have used the property solely as a wildlife rehabilitation retreat for the last 15 years, it remains their intention to continue using Joey's Retreat for this purpose in the foreseeable future.

The sanctuary covers approximately 10.5 hectares and is bordered by both the Wollemi National Park and 150 acres of National Parks and Wildlife Service land.  Predominant vegetation includes spotted gums (Corymbia maculata), grey iron barks (Eucalyptus paniculata), tea trees (Leptospermum spp.) and a variety of native grasses.

Wildlife present at Joey's Retreat includes a wide variety of birds such as parrots, finches, honey eaters and choughs, reptiles including lace monitors (Varanus varius) and eastern bearded dragons (Pogona barbata), and a wide range of macropods such as red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor) and common wallaroos (Macropus robustus).
