Marty Randel and Grant Middleton are the owners of Gaze Hill, a property located approximately 20km north of Kyogle. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and it is Marty and Grant’s intent to continue to utilise the property for conservation purposes. This includes planting more native vegetation to provide additional habitat for wildlife and building an off-grid house in the future.
Gaze Hill covers 6 hectares of regenerating native grassland which was previously used to graze cattle. There is a small pocket of eucalypt woodland and the owners are in the process of revegetating the land, planting wet rainforest species in the gullies and dry rainforest species on the hills.
Wildlife known to inhabit the sanctuary include grey goshawks (Accipiter novaehollandiae), eastern rosellas (Platycercus eximius), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), brown quails (Coturnix ypsilophora), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), northern brown (Isoodon macrourus) and long nosed (Perameles nasuta) bandicoots and galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla).
