Albert Schembri is the owner of Immanuel Centre, a property located approximately 35km south of Grafton. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary, also used for wildlife rehabilitation and release and farm animal rescue. It is Albert’s intent for the sanctuary to continue operating for these purposes.
The property covers 48.56 hectares, approximately 8 hectares of which is used as grazing land, with the remainder being natural bushland and some rainforest. The property’s creek frontage provides a source of water for wildlife year-round.
Wildlife species known to inhabit the Immanuel Centre include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), common wallaroos (Macropus robustus), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) and pretty-faced (Macropus parryi) wallabies, and a wide variety of bird life. All of these species have been released on the property following rehabilitation, and their presence is in stark contrast to how devoid of wildlife the property was prior to Albert’s occupation in 2008.
