Sandra Cummings is the owner of Nine Tails, a property situated in Nymboida, approximately 50km south of Grafton in New South Wales. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary. As a wildlife carer registered with WIRES, Sandra also raises and releases orphaned macropod joeys on the property. She wishes to maintain the property for these purposes, creating a sanctuary for all local native species.
The property spans approximately 158.8 hectares within the Clarence-Moreton Basin. It is comprised of native bushland, with a small area around the homestead cleared for bushfire management. The property features several caves and creeks which provide habitat for wildlife. Vegetation consists of Eucalypt woodland interspersed with wattles (Acacia spp.), grass trees (Xanthorrhoea spp.) and small pockets of subtropical rainforest.
An abundance of wildlife is present including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) and whiptail (Macropus parryi) wallabies, red-necked pademelons (Thylogale thetis), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), spotted-tailed quolls (Dasyurus maculatus) and long-nosed bandicoots (Perameles nasuta). Reptiles including monitors (Varanus spp.), pythons, eastern water skinks (Eulamprus quoyii), land mullets (Egernia major), freshwater turtles and various venomous snakes are also present. The property is home to a wide range of birds including brush turkeys (Alectura lathami).
