A residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary

Description

Saxon Ryan is the owner of Wilsons Reach, a property situated in Wilsons Creek, approximately 20km northwest of Byron Bay, New South Wales. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary also registered with Land for Wildlife. Peter has already restored much of the degraded riparian and forested areas on the property, with visible improvements. He intends to continue restoring riverine vegetation and rainforest through replanting efforts and weed eradication.

The property covers approximately 5 hectares and is bounded by the Wilsons River to the south. Vegetation is comprised of wet sclerophyll gallery forest; rainforest patches and regenerated woodland areas, with some cleared sections along the river flats.

A range of wildlife is present including platypuses (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), long-nosed bandicoots (Perameles nasuta) and eels. An array of birdlife including galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), ducks, kingfishers and various parrots also live on the property.
