Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Valley View Reserve

Stuart Dunstan and Jessie Donaghey are the owners of Valley View Reserve, a property located approximately 35km northwest of Gold Coast. The property is a home and dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and it is Stuart and Jessie’s intent for it to continue in these uses. They plan to focus on lantana removal and the regeneration of semi-cleared areas to encourage the presence of and better provide for local wildlife.

The property covers 1 hectare predominantly comprised of eucalypt woodland with pockets of subtropical rainforest in deep gullies created by water erosion. It backs on to a large tract of protected eucalypt forest and steep hills that form one side of the Wongawallan valley in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), native bees, and a wide range of birdlife including sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), brush-turkeys (Alectura lathami), king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus), tawny frogmouths (Podargus strigoides), black-faced cuckoo-shrikes (Coracina novaehollandiae), noisy friarbirds (Philemon corniculatus), and eastern whipbirds (Psophodes olivaceus).
