The Rosicrucian Order – The Aquarians are the owners of Berrinba Sanctuary, a property located approximately 25km south of Brisbane, Queensland. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and it is The Order’s intent to place a covenant on the property title to protect the wildlife and their habitat in perpetuity

The sanctuary covers 90 hectares of pristine native bushland with a diversity of native species and dominant vegetation types varying between scribbly gum (Eucalyptus racemosa) and Tindale’s stringybark (E. tindaliae), with other eucalypt species present as subdominant or scattered individuals.

Remnant vegetation is in good condition with limited weed invasion and has a layered structure with habitat trees featuring hollows present. Vegetation species include black she-oak (Allocasuarina littoralis), black wattle (Acacia concurrens), black sheoak (Allocasuarina littoralis), coast banksia (Banksia integrifolia), forest boronia (Boronia muelleri), ressurection fern (Polypodium polypodioides), pink bloodwood (Corymbia intermedia), white mahogany (E. acmenoides), grey gum (E. punctata), grey ironbark (E. paniculata), wombat berry (Eustrephus latifolius) and prickly leaved paperbark (Melaleuca styphelioides).

A huge range of native fauna species have been identified on Berinba Sanctuary through field surveys, with amphibian species including the eastern sedge frog (Litoria fallax), clicking froglet (Crinia signifera), ornate burrowing frog (Platyplectrum ornatum), naked tree frog (Litoria rubella), copper-backed brood frog (Pseudophryne raveni) and striped marsh frog (Limnodynastes peroni).

A diverse range of bird species recorded include red-browed finches (Neochmia temporalis), striated pardalotes (Pardalotus striatus), sacred kingfishers (Todiramphus sanctus), scaly-breasted lorikeets (Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus), powerful owls (Ninox strenua) and eastern whipbirds (Psophodes olivaceus), while sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) and swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor) feature among the mammals identified as occurring on Berrinba Sanctuary.
