Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Stonehouse Sanctuary

Kevin and Kayleen Stonehouse are the owners of Stonehouse Sanctuary, a property located approximately 55km south of Innisfail. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary used for education and wildlife rehabilitation, and it is Kevin and Kayleen’s intent for it to continue in these purposes.

The sanctuary covers 15 hectares adjoining Tully Gorge National Park, with the dominant vegetation type being tropical rainforest and in-ground springs providing year-round water sources for wildlife. Wildlife species for which the Stonehouse Sanctuary is known to provide habitat include agile (Macropus agilis) and swamp (Wallabia bicolor) wallabies, red-legged pademelons (Thylogale stigmatica stigmatica), Lumholtz’s tree kangaroos (Dendrolagus lumholtzi), striped (Dactylopsila trivirgata) and brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) possums, and a wide range of bird species.
