Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Durong Dingo Sanctuary

Simon Stretton is the owner of Durong Dingo Sanctuary, a property located approximately 190km north of Toowoomba. The property is a dedicated wildlife-friendly sanctuary; it houses 18 rescued, domestic and wild born dingoes and is the only dingo sanctuary in Queensland. It is Simon’s intent to continue dingo breeding programs and provide a wildlife friendly sanctuary for native wildlife in the area. He also intends to assist in dingo education and management through volunteer and university programs.  The property covers 18 hectares of mixed forest and undulating open pasture.

Some of the species found on the property include: dingoes (Canis dingo), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), whiptail wallabies (Macropus parryi), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) lace monitors (Varanus varius), sand monitors (Varanus gouldii), Australian king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), tawny frogmouths (Podargus strigoides) brown tree snakes (Boiga irregularisand), green tree snakes (Dendrelaphis punctulata), white winged choughs (Corcorax melanorhamphos) and a range of other reptile and bird species.
