A dedicated wildlife sanctuary and residence

Description

Howard Hill is the owner of a property situated in Lunawanna on Bruny Island, Tasmania. The property is a residence also used to conserve native species and their habitat and Howard wishes to sell the property to a conservation-minded buyer to encourage natural regeneration of the land. The property is protected in-perpetuity with a covenant and is also registered with Land for Wildlife.

The property encompasses 20 hectares on an L-shaped block and features around 6 hectares of creek flats. It is comprised mainly of pasture with some regeneration sites as well as areas of scrub, teatree and eucalypt forest. The property is situated on heavy black cracking soil with some areas of sandy and peaty soil and some rocky areas. Elevations range from near sea level to around 90 metres above sea level. Native forest on the property largely consists of black peppermint (Eucalyptus amygdalina) coastal forest, messmate (E. obliqua) dry forest and some stands of manna gum (E. viminalis) forest.

A wide abundance of wildlife is found on the property including swift parrots (Lathamus discolor), Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax fleayi), white-bellied sea eagles (Haliaeetus leucogaster) and possibly forty-spotted pardalotes (Pardalotus quadragintus).
