Steve de Gruchy and Michelle Hazelwood are the owners of a property located approximately 100km southeast of Perth. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and it is Steve and Michelle’s intent to continue caring for it in the best interests of native wildlife.
The sanctuary covers approximately 16.2 hectares of partially cleared land, with large and dominant vegetation species including jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata), Western Australian blackbutt (E. patens) and Western Australian peppermint (Agonis flexuosa). A natural dam on, and seasonal (winter) creek running through the property provide an additional water source for local wildlife
Wildlife species for which the sanctuary is known to provide habitat include western grey kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus), bobtails (Tiliqua rugosa rugosa), monitors (Varanus spp.), freshwater crayfish (Cherax cainii/C. tenuimanus), white (Calyptorhynchus baudinii) and red-tailed (Calyptorhynchus banksii) black cockatoos, purple swamp hens (Porphyrio porphyrio), superb blue wrens (Malurus cyaneus), and a range of other bird species.
