A residence and orchard as well as a dedicated replanting site and wildlife sanctuary

Description

Richard and Tricia Turner are the owners of The Farm, a property located approximately 15km South-East of Perth.  The property was originally a small holding, but is now predominantly orchard being returned to native trees and shrubs.  It is Richard and Tricia’s intention to ensure that the native wildlife has somewhere to be safe from development.

The sanctuary covers approximately 1.61 hectares with the predominant vegetation types being eucalypts, grevilleas and native grasses, with some orchard trees. Richard and Tricia have planted hundreds of native trees and shrubs since moving to The Farm 6 years ago, and as the majority of neighbouring land has been developed, the property has become an important wildlife sanctuary. Wildlife present includes possums, southern brown bandicoots (Isoodon obesulus), bob tail lizards (Tiliqua rugosa) , Carnaby's cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus latirostris)red-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus banksii) and a wide variety of other bird species.

"We joined WLT because our state Land for Wildlife Scheme considered us too small, their minimum being 5 acres.  We may only have 4 acres but we believe every acre is important especially when they abut onto areas to form corridors that are so vital for wildlife to survive.  It is great to be part of WLT and with our signs highly visible on a busy road we can only hope that they will encourage others to sign up too."
