Description

Carsten Wagner-Richelmann and Karin Quetschke are the owners of Quaalup Homestead Wilderness Retreat, a property located approximately 200km northeast of Albany. Nestled in the western part of the Fitzgerald River National Park, the property is a wildlife-friendly sanctuary and a tourism business. It is Carsten and Karin's intent to continue protection the property's natural values, emphasised through their additional membership of the Land for Wildlife program.

Quaalup Homestead Wilderness Retreat covers approximately 17 hectares of native bushland within the Fitzgerald River National Park, internationally recognised by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve and one of Australia's largest and most botanically significant National Parks with year round wildflowers.

Wildlife known to inhabit the sanctuary includes western grey kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus), honey possums (Tarsipes rostratus), western brush wallabies (Macropus irma) , malleefowl (Leipoa ocellata), western whipbirds (Psophodes nigrogularis), Carnaby's black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus latirostris), red-eared firetails (Stagonopleura oculata) and a variety of other bird species.
