Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / WA / Matthew and Adele’s Refuge

Matthew and Adele Lloyd are the owners of a sanctuary located in Paulls Valley, approximately 30km east of Perth, Western Australia. The property is used as a residence; however the majority of the land is dedicated to native forest. One section of the property is conserved as a wildlife corridor to allow kangaroos to access the nearby Kalamunda National Park. Matthew and Adele are also considering establishing a shelter and release site for kangaroos on the property.

The sanctuary covers approximately 7 hectares bordering the Kalamunda National Park, located in the Jarrah Forest Bioregion. The property consists of partially cleared bush and native eucalypt forest and is bordered by a high fence. Vegetative species present include eucalypts such as the Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) and Marri (Corymbia calophylla) as well as grass trees (Xanthorrhoea spp.) and native grass species.

Wildlife known to inhabit the sanctuary includes eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), shingleback lizards (Tiliqua rugosa), black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus spp.), Australian ringneck parrots (Barnardius zonarius), splendid fairy wrens (Malurus splendens), honeyeaters (Meliphagidae spp.) and Australian magpies (Cracticus tibicen).
