Bushfires, droughts and floods are ravaging our country, taking an unprecedented toll on wildlife and their habitats. Humane Society International has set up an emergency fund for Wildlife Land Trust members and wildlife carers to get the support they need to help save animal victims and begin recovery efforts following the fires.

Humane Society International supports wildlife carers and the incredible work they do to preserve our native species across Australia. Our Wildlife Land Trust program includes over 600 sanctuaries, many of which are wildlife rehabilitation or release sites.

Sadly, dedicated wildlife carers have been among those most devastated by the fires and those most in need of help in this trying time.

We have set up a Wildlife Emergency Response Fund to provide support to any registered wildlife carer who needs assistance in the wake of this season’s fires. Through this fund we have delivered emergency truckloads of water and supplementary feed, funding for medical supplies and materials to build water stations to help kangaroos, koalas, flying-foxes and wombats.

Recovering from this disaster will take a long time and wildlife carers will require long-term support, which is why Humane Society International’s funding is delivered on an ongoing basis for expenses like food and water deliveries. The program also supports larger projects with benefits to affected wildlife now and into the future – repairing destroyed wildlife enclosures, installing bird and possum nestboxes and improving freshwater habitats for native fish to name a few.

If you are in need of assistance caring for fire-affected wildlife or restoring burnt habitat we are happy to provide funding for feed, water, medical supplies, construction or anything else that may be needed.
